In this day and age when all is changing around us, the one thing consistent is our love for the horse. We have them in our back yards, our fields, our barns and in our pastures. We mostly have them in our hearts, and the Three Phase Event, Inc. was begun and continues because of that love. Through our grant program and our competition, we promote the health and well being, education and versatility of all those who’s lives are touched by the horse. Respecting the natural bond that occurs between the horse and their humans companions, the Three Phase Event promotes safe and sound practices while we interact on the trail, in the show ring and in our back yards. The Three Phase Event for all breeds of gaited horses and non jumping trot horses, is an equine versatility event for seasoned trail and show horses that demonstrate their versatility in dressage, a set stadium obstacle course and a 3 to 5 mile cross country course which demands stamina and willingness to meet field challenges for the beginner novice, novice and training level division riders. Each division is broken down into youth ages 12 to 17, and adults 18 and above. The fourth annual national gaited horse event will be held again at the continually developing Kentucky Equestrian Center, 850 Kiddville Road, Winchester, KY, just off the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway, May 15 - 16, 2010. The last three years were a huge success, being host to such breeds as: Mountain Pleasure, Rocky Mountain, Kentucky Mountain, the McCurdy Plantation, the Tennessee Walker, the gaited Arabian, the American Saddlebred and Thoroughbreed cross. The initial focus of the Three Phase Event was on the soft gaited horse which is bred to have a four beat gait at the intermediate speed where other horses trot. But all the horses who attended our event must demonstrate their bred distinctions of their respective gait. It was exciting to watch these varied horse and rider teams. The Three Phase Event organizers have developed this nationalversatility championship place the focus on the individual horse and rider teams. Because of this, the competitors, while competing for the individual and overall titles and prize money, enjoy the camaraderie of their fellow competitors without the head to head competition found in a group, round ring event. Whether in the stadium obstacle course, the dressage arena, or the cross country course, we encourage the equestrian teams to only focus on their horse/rider relationship as they perform together to accomplish the challenge before them. At the end of the day, that is what horseback riding is all about, either on the trail or in a show venue. We welcome all our returning competitors and those who are coming for the first time to a truly unique and rewarding event.
